About the Author
Carol D. Levine brings to this book her experience as a correctional officer in a youth detention center, a counselor in an alcohol and drug detox facility and methadone clinic, and a psychiatric technician. She volunteered in the Rahway Lifers Scared Straight program and worked as a volunteer with at-risk youth. Wife, mother, grandmother, housewife, and survivor, the author resides in New Jersey.

Glad I read It!

I'm not someone who writes reviews often but I had to go out of my way on this one. I just finished reading Panic Child by author Carol Levine. Unlike stories that offer hope and inspiration after enduring terrible circumstances this story takes your emotions one step further. While reading the heartrending story of a little girl who's been molested you are also being drawn into the mind of a child who's maturing and realizing the affects of her rape and neglect. The story is written with honesty as she recounts alcohol abuse and panic attacks. It must have taken a lot of courage to put pen to paper to write out the details. And Levine did so in a flowing manner and at times with humor that makes you want to read more.
There's a real lesson to be learned from this story. After reading it you become conscious of your own responsibility to making sure the laws that protect the public from sexual predators are tough and more importantly enforced to the fullest.

Eye-Opening Book - Highly Recommended!

Being a survivor of sexual assault myself, I was blown away by Carol Levine's book, "Panic Child". She wrote the book with such vivid detail that you felt you were right there with her. Like others said, while reading the book, there were times you cried, times you screamed, and times you laughed. Unfortunately, for me, there were many instances that were way too familiar from my past. For many years, I wasn't able to open up about my sexual assault, and to say it took courage for Ms. Levine to write this book, after everything she has had to live through, is an understatement. I would highly recommend this book to any counselors/therapists, educators, or women's shelters/groups that deal with sexual assault survivors...with the hope they pass it along to other survivors (especially immediate survivors) to not only show them that they aren't alone and that sexual assault is way too common in our country (and the perpetrators do not get the sentencing they deserve), but to understand how extremely important it is to open up and talk to someone, instead of hiding in fear. I commend Ms. Levine for publishing this book and for sharing such a horrific part of her life. I hope she knows that she IS helping others through the coping/healing process. She should be very proud.
