A fact based and necessary argument is made

I give it four stars just for the courage to write it. In today's climate, you're considered a bigot if you dare challenge the PC left narrative, mainly because that seems to be their only argument - "oh you're being mean!" Facts matter and the author cites facts. Now, it's probably fair to say wonder if he has presented a balanced argument, which used to be the standard for writing a book, but in what passes these days for public debate, the left has made their argument over and over, so it would be redundant for Taleeb to do so. The difference is he cites facts. The left's argument is largely based on emotion and so it must rely on the rallying cry that anyone who doesn't wear the ribbon of their argument is axiomatically a racist. And, since Taleeb is black, I'm sure he's considered an Uncle Tom as well. That's all the left has, it seems, is name calling and identity politics. Name calling and identity politics have lifted no one out of poverty, has not made the inner city safer for the largely good people who live there and just want to live their lives in peace, and has produced no solutions except a call for revenge (for what I don't know).

That said, were it not for the courage to take this side of the argument on, I'd have to rate it a bit lower. The writing style is a bit tedious after a while. His repetitive approach seems intended to simply add pages unnecessarily or to explain what a statistic means over and over, which is a bit insulting to the reader.

He could have also rounded out his argument with a bit more tidiness. His second point, aside from the simple fact that the grievance industry diminishes the public discourse with their lies, is the horror of so many inner city, innocent, folks that have lost their lives and these, as he puts it, unqualified lives are the true tragedy. Some punk, black or white, who can't follow the most basic rules of society and puts himself or herself in a position where law enforcement has to make a split second decision is of little concern because the punk has made the choice for him/herself. The tragedy is the person caught in the crossfire who never got to make a decision. His question, correctly, is when are we going to start talking about those lives? When are our feckless leaders going to start attending THEIR funerals?

Anyone wanting to know the real motives behind the Black Lives Matter movement and the reason that liberals, progressives and the Democratic Party keep racism in the forefront of society's consciousness need only to read this book and it will become painfully clear how political correctness in the form of race victimization has destroyed this country.

Wow what an eye opener...the author Taleeb Starkes has got some guts to tell the truth and I loved his sarcasm...our law-abiding group in St Louis call it the "Ferguson Lie" and he nailed it...I'm buying a half dozen and giving them out to the folks I know who have swallowed the Kool-aid

A must-read guide for ADHD marriage

I read in an article somewhere that most people who get out of an ADHD marriage wonder how they survived such a "train wreck". I have been married to an ADHD husband for 37 years. And I have an 18 year old ADHD daughter. I feel like I have been through years of train wrecks. It's exhausting. I hired an ADD coach for myself who reminded me I was living with two "aliens". When my husband poo-pooed the coach's suggestions, coach wished me luck with the frustrations to come. I want to separate from my spouse.
I wish I'd had this book 30 years ago. Melissa's story is my story. Exactly. But, I began drinking heavily to deal with the stress and denial of my family members that they had any disorder. Feeling ignored and attacked, that "I was the one with the problem" finally has finished it for me. I had to get to Alcoholics Anonymous seeking recovery help from alcoholism and depression.
Everything Melissa Orlov mentions is spot on. There is work that must be willingly undertaken by both spouses in order for the marriage to survive. My daughter and husband finally agreed to evaluations which recommended taking meds which all the docs agreed they needed. And they love how their meds help them. But they won't do the additional cognitive behavioral piece which absolutely should happen--because this affects me heavily. They don't see the value; they refuse to hear how difficult living with their behavior can be for me.
I hate to say my marriage is done, but I am holding on only until my daughter leaves for college. If you have an ADHD or ADD spouse, read this now and seriously follow Melissa's suggestions. Do the work in loving kindness and with the expectation that you both want the best for each other. Be willing, honest, open to change and help with this neurological disorder. Don't let train wrecks of alienation, affairs, fighting, and resentments rule your life. Sadly, I have come to realize how much happier I am when I am alone, especially for long stretches of time, at peace, living in a way that nurtures and doesn't suck the soul out of me.

Helps end the struggling

I am a non ADHD spouse living with an ADHD husband and having raised an ADHD child (who is now an adult). After a 43 year struggling marriage, this book validated every feeling I have had for all these years. It helped me to understand the struggle my spouse and adult child go through on a daily bais. This brings understanding for me, help with my frustrations, validation of my feelings and what I have been going through and empathy for those who live in the world differently than me. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book. I only wish I had read it 40 years ago. I love my family and their ADHD personalities. Yes, I would change a few things if I could, but all in all, they are wonderful people just looking for recognition, understanding and love.

Hits painfully close to home

My husband and I have been married for 31 years. Our daughter was diagnosed with ADHD when she was 17. As I educated myself about ADHD, our daughter's diagnosis not only explained a lot about certain behavior issued we'd had with her over the years, it also explained a lot about my husband and our marriage. Even though my husband has not been professionally evaulated for ADHD, over the years he has displayed many of the behaviors associated with the disorder. As I read through this book, it felt like Orlov has had a hidden camera trained on our marriage.

I found it to be a difficult, or perhaps I should say uncomfortable, book to read. Yes, many of my husband's patterns of behavior are described, and so are many of my own that have been in reaction to him (and not all of them are flattering). ADHD affects more than just the person who has it, and Orlov points out that having ADHD is not a character flaw, nor is it necessarily "a problem" even though it can have a deterimental effect on a person's life and relationships. But knowledge and information are power and this book has helped me shift my perspective on my husband, myself, and our marriage in a positive way.

I recommend this book to anyone who is in a relationship with an ADHD partner.

This book is very resourceful, however my teacher changed the format to APA style, 6th edition, so I could only use this book for a short amount of time.

Reading the book gave me an inner peace knowing that prayers are not always answered immediately but finding peace in the Good L

I was one of the lucky ones being asked to review this book .This book came at a time when many trials have been hitting our family. In fact, every time I turn around it is one more thing that makes me wonder what I did to deserve all of this. Many of the things we have been dealing with could result in death, divorce or dissension in the family. Reading the book gave me an inner peace knowing that prayers are not always answered immediately but finding peace in the Good Lord's pauses. Our timing is not always his timing . We need to focus on God's Love and trust in him to lead us to the answer to our prayers. Sometimes those answers are not always evident immediately but we must wait and see.

Worth the Wait

Wendy Pope knows a thing or two about waiting. She waited many years before conceiving a child. She waited countless months for a diagnosis as her husband's eyesight became blurry for no apparent reason. And she waited twelve years at her desk at Proverbs 31 Ministry before she was able to achieve her dream of publishing a book.
That book, called "Wait and See," is a well thought out examination of the waiting periods in our lives. Throughout the book, Pope compares the lives of 4 modern day "waiters" with that of King David to demonstrate how God uses stagnant seasons in our lives to do something good in us.
The ten chapters in the book deal with how waiting on the Lord changes us. At the end of each chapter, she reveals a little more about the lives of the "waiters" mentioned above, as they progress on their journeys. She also allows room for Bible study and personal reflection.
Pope, who calls herself a "word nerd," does not waste a word in her writing. Her analogies are appropriate, her examples realistic and her tone comes across down-to-earth without being falsely empathetic. She shares insightful Biblical truths like, "As we wait, we find peace in God's plans and hope in His pauses. Our focus moves from the object of our wait to the Person of our faith." I found myself feeling convicted of my own struggles with patience due to the honesty and vulnerability of her personal examples.
This book should appeal to anyone who has been through a period of waiting. It is a reminder that God is with us even in the times it seems he is silent.

Sometimes waiting is painful and we wonder where God is

Wendy writes from personal experience the wait that we experience while God is working in our lives. Her writing is very transparent. This isn't a how to book, but a new way of thinking. Sometimes waiting is painful and we wonder where God is. Wendy talks about how she changed her way of thinking about the waits in her life. It is a great read for those of us in a waiting period and need to change how we process what goes on in the wait.

Incredible Book for Anyone Who Has Ever Loved an Animal

This book "jumped off the shelf" at me at a local bookstore, and my life hasn't been the same since. The stories and messages are so inspiring! I never realized how much our pets are concerned for our welfare and growth, and I never knew this type of communication was possible.

"Coincidentally," about 10 days after I started reading Maia's books, my dog Daisy was diagnosed with a tumor on her spleen, and we needed to make a decision on whether surgery was in her best interests. I contacted Maia, who did a consult with Daisy for us. What an amazing experience! Daisy made it very clear to us that she does not want surgery, that she is not in pain, and that she loves her life with us. She also has some very insightful suggestions for me and my husband. It seems she knows us better than we know ourselves.

I've been through the end of life process with two prior dogs, and it is always devastating, but this is the first time we've been able to actually get input from the dog herself on what she wants. There are no words to express how much peace of mind this has given us.

Maia is the real deal, and she has done us humans a huge service by sharing these messages from our animals, plants, and Mother Earth herself. If you read even one of the stories in this book, you will never look at your pet -- or the world -- in the same way again. You will feel your heart and mind open up in ways you never thought possible.

One caution, though -- you'd better order at least 2 copies, because you will immediately think of someone you need to send a copy to, and you won't want to give up yours.

Wow! A Peak into the Mind of Dogs

Maia has written a great book about a peak into the mind of dogs- and how and what they think and express of their owners and life in general. This book is well written and inspires us to expand our own selves to know it is possible to have a deeper and even more meaningful relationship with our animal companions. This is a real eye opener into the world of our 4 legged friends. If you are curious, or love animals, I encourage you to read not just this book, but all of her books! They are clear, entertaining and revealing.

I enjoyed this book by Maia Kincaid. Her thoughts are very insightful regarding man's connections to our loyal animal companions.

Fast-paced read, tense and sexy

This was a well-written, fast-paced read. It features Miriam and Emmett from Kindred as well as introducing Natasha from Spoils, but you really didn't need to have read either one of those novels to really enjoying reading Debts. I loved it.

This novella sheds a light on the backstory to SPOILS, written by the same novelist. The secrets revealed in the novella whets one's appetite and leaves the reader wanting a sequel to this story! The great novel and novella are not enough!
